SNOWFLAKES

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with the intricate and delicate beauty of the snowflake! Over the years I have collected photos and books and read more about this crystalline miracle than I care to admit and along the way I discovered Wilson A. "Snowflake" Bentley.

"Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated., When a snowflake melted, that design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone, without leaving any record behind."
          Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley 1925

I am sure you have heard the phrase 'no two snowflakes are alike' but did you know that Wilson Bentley made this discovery in the small rural town of Jericho, Vermont in 1885 when he became the first person to photograph a snow crystal (aka snowflake). Over his lifetime he photographed over 5000 of them earning the nickname "Snowflake Bentley."

For more information on Wilson Bentley, visit the official "Snowflake Bentley" website at http://snowflakebentley.com/.

In the spirit of celebrating, I'm hosting a contest of my own.  For a chance to win a PDF copy of my e-books Skin Deep, an erotic contemporary novella , Whisper Sweet Nothings, an erotic Weekend Getaway, as well as a $25.00 Gift Certificate to Secret Cravings Publishing, simply leave a comment below sharing your favorite activity in the snow.

  10. Since I live in the deep South...when and if I do see snow, it's usually just a dusting. I'd love to live where there was enough to sled in. Even at my age, *48 tomorrow* I'd love to try sledding.

Thanks for being a part of this hop. I'm loving finding new to me authors!

  11. In PA our snowfall varies, I love a snow day with my kids. I dream of a big enough snow we can build our own igloo/fort, somehow warm the inside some and hang out there.... (Inspired by the movie Snow Day, a must watch on at least one snow day....). missmichelle345@gmail.com

  12. I love snow when I don't have to drive or get around in it. I like the way the town looks when everything is covered in snow. It's awesome to just watch, just like a picture greeting card. My activity to do during the snow....nothing. I'm somewhat disable and can't do some of the things I use to do like, snowball fights and building snowmen. They were fun! However, it's still all good. :-)

    Thanks for sharing.

  14. There are many things I like to do in the snow but they are mostly not with the snow. When I was younger playing tag in a snow maze was great fun (especially when it was well over your head). Now that I am older I enjoy being in a hot tub with the cold all around; sitting next to a fire reading or chatting while it is snowing or better yet when there is a good blizzard blowing, or watching skiers coming down the hills or skating. I'm not much of one for being cold myself as you can probably tell.
